Christmas can be a time of great Joy and High Expense,
so here are some great Home Energy Saving Tips to help you save
Energy and also help the Environment this Christmas!
Electronic Devices & Gadgets
No doubt this christmas will be a bumper year for people receiving
Electronic Devices as Gifts so Remember to:
Don’t leave your new tablets or Mobile Devices on charge for longer
than necessary and don’t forget to switch off other
devices at the plug when not in use.
Instead of leaving Devices on stand-by, switch them off when you are not using them.
This will save up to 20% of the energy that your appliances use.
Use power strips – Plug home electronics devices, such as TVs and stereo equipment,
into power strips; turn the power strips off when the equipment is not in use
Christmas Lights & Decorations
Luminous Santas and twinkling rope lights
are all part of the atmosphere that make Christmas Special
But leaving these shine throughout the night, will help
drive your Electricity Bills through the roof.
So use an automatic timer and set them to switch off automatically.
Also consider buying new miniature lights or LED strings, which use far less
energy and last much longer than the larger bulbs.
Food preparation is an important aspect of christmas,
so Cook in batches: cook as much as possible in the oven in
one go to make sure all the space and heat is being used.
You can always freeze portions of food to warm up at a later date.
Fast and efficient microwave ovens use around 50 percent less
energy than conventional ovens, and are especially efficient
for smaller portions or items or for reheating foods for snacks etc.
Fridge and Freezer
Help your Fridge and freezer operate efficiently and economically
by keeping the doors closed as much as possible so the cold air doesn’t escape.
However, leaving the door open for a longer period of time while you
take out the items you need is more efficient than opening and closing it several times.
It’s easy to keep your Fridge and freezer full at Christmas.
It’s also energy efficient, because the mass of cold items inside will help your
Fridge recover each time the door is opened. Don’t cram it so full,
however, that cool air can’t circulate properly around your food.
According to research, a load of dishes cleaned in a dishwasher requires 37 percent
less water than washing dishes by hand. So If you opt to use the dishwasher,
wash full loads only. If you must rinse your dishes before loading
them, use only cold water so you’re not running up your energy bill by Heating Water unnecessarily.
Don’t forget to use the energy-saving cycles whenever possible.
Other General Tips for around the Home at Christmas
If you’ve got long curtains in your rooms, make sure they’re
not covering a radiator when they’re drawn.
Keep curtains drawn at night in every room to stop heat escaping from the windows
Check the radiator settings – there’s no need to have a radiator cranked up to full blast in a
room you rarely use. Even turning the radiators down just one notch will make a difference
to your energy bill, and won’t make too much difference to the warmth of your home.
By Saving Energy in your Home you will also be helping the environment as
you will be reducing your Home’s harmful CO2 Emissions
( the gases blamed for Climate Change )
So be Energy Aware and have a Merry Christmas
